HAVE A HAPPY & HEALTHY HOLIDAY SEASON!!!

From Naturally Savvy:

By now you most likely have your holiday ensemble ready and in order: your favorite Little Black Dress (LBD) from a few seasons back or maybe that brand-new (complete with price-tags) piece that you probably shouldn’t have splurged on—but it’s just so flattering, right? Now that the hard part is over, why not have some fun and pick up a piece or two of high-style-glam that adds to your current look and lasts long after the holidays have gone?
Gold Glendy earrings at Mercado Global, $48
Not only do these earrings benefit the village of San Pablo, Guatemala, but they have a beautiful Bohemian quality that works all year round! Imagine them peeking out from under your favorite winter hat, bringing a little glam to a cold, dreary day. As for the spring, tell us these don’t have “perfect compliment to vintage caftan” written all over them! If caftans aren’t your thing, how gorgeous would these be with a sleek summer dress?
Shimmery Remnant scarf by Popomomo, $48
This piece is funky, fun and surprisingly versatile! It is hand crafted from remnant materials, turning leftovers into a main dish! For the holidays, the classic girls can pair it with that beloved LBD or a man-tailored shirt and pencil skirt. So chic! The edgier gal can work it with a lace cami, ruffled mini and broad-shouldered blazer.
When the chill is long-gone, spice up your spring by adding this shiny number to a white tank, jeans and bright espadrille wedges during the day, and at night, match it with a black maxi dress and bejewelled flats for a look that’s so right.
Brazil heels by Olsen Haus, $250
You may think they’re a little pricy, but just think of how much mileage you’ll get out of these stunning shoes. By pioneering design effort, Olsen Haus have made Vegan shoes chic. These Brazils will turn heads for the holidays and on warm weather nights. Rock them with lace tights, ripped jeans and a slouchy sweater for the perfect downtown look this winter. Once the temperature starts to soar again, pair these knockouts with a bright, structured mini dress or Bermuda shorts and a girlie top.
Leather Ruffle Clutch by Refind Originals, $90
Talk about transitional. Crafted from all recycled leather, this clutch is feminine without the fuss. Large enough for all your essentials, but small enough to throw in your day bag if need be. Carry this clutch around this season with anything from a stylish pant suit or a fancy holiday dress & big gold earrings to leggings, ballet flats and an oversized tunic. Once that sun is shining bright again, picture it with an elegant white sheath dress and metallic flats, or as the ultimate compliment to a summer wedding ensemble.
Buy now and enjoy later… all fashion should deliver such longevity!

For the stylish man’s gift list… we’ve asked our resident stylish man, GWG Marketing Director, David Pirrotta. Here’s wish wishlist of glamourous and “green” holiday gifts!
My favorite style memory as a little boy came from my fabulous Aunt LeClair, she advised, “every man must have a timepiece, not a watch.” This vintage Cartier is that perfect timepiece for any man with style.

Looking for the perfect tote? Go hemp! My favorite Goyard tote looks great at the office during the week, but when my weekend rolls around it’s over my shoulder at the farmer’s market.

When holiday party season starts, every guy is looking for that comfortable, yet sexy sweater. This one by Covet is it! Wear it with your favorite pair of jeans, or dress it up with a blazer.

Every man already has a classic button down in his wardrobe, but may need a more stylish option! I love this heather grey “Embarcadero” shirt, and it’s perfect for the winter months!

Have a wonderful Holiday Season, my stylish friends!

Can you believe it’s almost Christmas? Hanukkah begins Friday! How has this happened? I hope for your sanity and your loved ones that you haven’t failed in the gift buying department as hugely as I have this year. Luckily I have a great idea for stocking stuffers!
Spornette International, a 50+ year institution in the brush manufacturing world, has started making bamboo brushes, and they have quite the selection. I love their well-crafted ZHU collection with bamboo handles and nylon bristles. They range in style from a paddle brush, for the hang straight blow-out, to aerated rounders with ceramic barrels, for styling bangs and creating flips… and Spornette brushes can be found at over 5,000 beauty supply retailers (that’s pretty much everywhere)!

I have found that the smaller barreled rounder is perfect for creating lift when I work it around the crown of my head. The nice ceramic barrel also helps avoid embarrassing adolescent mishaps, like getting the bristles tangled in your hair so badly you have to have your mom cut it out with the kitchen shears.

Well, hello Hairbrush Hero!
Okay, well that was easy (and my hair looks luscious)… Now on to more last minute shopping.

Caramel Corn reminds me of my Grandfather… he’s got an incredible sweet tooth – and along with homemade fudge, Peanut M&Ms, Werther’s Originals and Brach’s Butterscotch Kisses, he always seems to have it on hand. Since becoming Vegan, I haven’t crossed paths with many suitable Carmel Corns, so when I saw this recipe on Girlie Girl Army (via Eden Organic Foods) – my own sweet tooth swelled!

My Grandfather
Heat oil in a large pot and pop corn according to package directions. Place popped corn in a large bowl. Preheat oven to 350°. Combine the barley malt, maple syrup, peanut butter and miso in a small sauce pan. Bring to a boil over a high flame, stirring frequently. Reduce the flame to medium-low, stirring constantly for 5 to 7 minutes. Pour over the popcorn and mix thoroughly. Place the mixture on an cookie sheet (do not oil) and spread out evenly. Bake for 3 to 5 minutes. Immediately remove the caramel corn with a spatula to prevent sticking to the sheet.
Yields: approximately 16 cups
Note: For those with allergies to peanuts, substitute almond or cashew butter; or omit.

I have a LOVE/HATE relationships with events… and it usually sways toward the “hate” side. If it’s an event that revolves around a beloved band or a great new film – I’m better. But shopping events typically pain me – which is ridiculous, because… not only do I LOVE shopping, but I, myself, host shopping events for Green With Glamour! Go figure.
Anyway, this last Thursday was a full night… LACMA’s screening of Tom Ford’s A Single Man (stunning!) AND premier eco magazine (for which I’m a contributor in the current issue), Coco Eco holiday event at Fred Segal benefiting Toys For Tots. And while there was a pitifully small amount of toys donated by the evening’s end (Seriously… shame on you, Party Goers), the event overall was relatively low-key and lovely! Complete with celebrity guests like Rachel Leigh Cook and Rachelle Carson Begley… and Anna Getty with her book, I’m Dreaming of a Green Christmas.

Rachel Leigh Cook (in Love Heals) Rachelle Carson Begley
Coco Eco, in collaboration with incredibly environmentally thoughtful mother & son jewelry design team, Love Heals (10 trees planted per piece sold/320,000 trees planted thus far) hosted an evening of shopping, refreshments and hobnobbing that was simply divine! I ran into and caught up with the lovely editor of Ecostiletto, Rachell Sarnoff and even found a Christmas gift for my oh-so-hard-to-shop-for Grandmother. I would say the evening was a resounding success (except for perhaps the Toys for Tots thing) and it was the perfect way to ramp up for a season’s worth of holiday events! Stay tuned…

Ooh la la… C’est chic! When I saw Sublet’s (Dorothy) bow top – it was love at first site! I thought… how girlie… how simply sophisticated… how fashionable without being too spendy. It’s the kind of top that works with jeans and flats, skirts and heels AND leggings and boots – you name it. It’s seasonless… cardigan and scarf for Fall, flip flops and cutoffs for Spring – it’s perfection!
And I did spy an Andrew Gn top that employs the same principles… white/cream with a sweet black bow. Similar in design, right? Well, NOT in pricetag!

Sublet Dorothy top, $185

Bow Top, Andrew Gn, $1465
Hmmmm… what do you think?

So… we thought it would be fun for the Green With Glamour team to share their holiday gift lists and wish lists. We’re an eclectic bunch, but all seriously value style, substance and sustainability. This week we’re featuring our First Lady of Beauty, Sara Jones-Rust!

Getting:
My husband and I have a five year plan to live in a city that lets us have a yard, and in that yard we want a big garden. This beginners canning kit will help us eat local all year round.

Dirty Librarian chains have got to be my favorite find of 2009 (thanks to Deana). It’s hard for me to narrow it down to just one, but I think the “Reference necklace” would suit me just fine.

I am a book worm at heart and would love nothing more than to amass an entire library. From the classics to the Twilight series, I love them all. But why buy new when the latest best sellers pop up in my local used book store in no time?

Since I am also a makeup junkie, my list would not be complete without some BEAUTY! The Nvey Eco gift set is complete with blush, bronzer, gloss and shadow. This kit has it all.

And what’s an eco-diva to do with all those fantastic, sustainable, beauty products when she wants to leave the house? Put them in the gorgeous Alicia Silverstone line of makeup bags for EcoTools, of course! The hemp & recycled plastic train case seems to be about the perfect size for all my basics with room left over for those fancy holiday shades.

Giving:
My favorite thing to give and get, especially this time of year, is a donation to a charity. One of my favorites is Women for Women International which helps women in war torn countries rebuild their lives. Having sponsored and corresponded with a young woman from Kosovo, I can tell you it’s an incredible experience and better than any thing you can buy at a store.
