GWG’s “My Style” contributor, inspirer and celebrity hairstylist… Vanessa Rose Price!

There’s one thing for certain about Vanessa Rose Price – she commands attention.  Whether it’s one of her edgy-rock-n-roll-badass-girlie outfits OR her signature platinum locks (that are sometimes turned pink or turquoise or black or shaven or all of the above)  OR her ability to be comfortable in any situation – from The White House to a campground… she’s one of those people you notice for all the right reasons.

The scintillating Ms. Price

Though her celebrity client list is unending, her current jam is traveling the globe with “the kid” (her playful nickname for Justin Bieber).  And yes, she did create that haircut.  She’s actually cut my hair a multitude of times and I have to say… this chick knows what she’s doing.  No wonder she is who she is.

Anywho… back to her style.  As a mostly “heels” girl myself, Vanessa has shown me that ballerina flats can be super sexy when paired with a bit of lace, a bit of metal and skinny jeans WAY before they were cool.

When asked about her style:

Oh shoot. My style is practical and sexy, at least I hope it is. I like to blur the line between delicate and rough. I’ve always been inspired by music. One of my first style icons I think was Suzie Quattro, I just remember her playing both Pinky and Leather Tuscadero on Happy Days. LOL. But my main inspirations throughout my life has always been the blondes, Bridgette Bardot, Deborah Harry, Edie Sedgwick and Nico. I feel they embody the delicate and roughness that I love so much. ~VRP

As for the GWG picks she adores:

The organic “Dolly”tee by Curator,  The Clutch in 70s Chic by GWG, the recycled cotton Suzani throw by In2Green, the Mercedes satchel by Hemptress, and the adorable Madame Lips necklace by Kristy Lin!

Check them HERE!

As for the charities Vanessa supports:

Animal Welfare InstitutePlanned Parenthood & St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Compassion and style… is there any better combination?!

A sneak peek at GWG’s Spring style…

We’re getting in some FANTASTIC pieces for Spring, people!  Here’s a 1st look…

The Kimmie tee by Curator is one of our favorite pieces for the season.  Brilliant color, cool, laser cut pattern and super flattering fit.  Pair it with short shorts or a full length skirt… insta-style!

Another piece of chic by Popomomo.  The Zabriskie cutout dress is a not-so-basic staple… side seam pockets, a short, but-not-scandalous hemline and a loose cut, this dress will become a 3 season favorite!

I mean… this is real.  How hilarious/adorable/eye-catching is the Hello Sailor tote by 44 Knots?!  The perfect carry-all… sturdy, sustainable & chic! Made in the US of 100% recycled vintage sailcloth. Available in Small (10” x 7”), Medium (16” x 14”) & Large (21” x 15”). Colors may vary due to nature of materials, shown in large.

And speaking of hilarious/adorable/eye-catching, Feral Childe’s Lightning Bolt necklace hits all of those points!  This necklace is as out there as an actual lightning bolt… and yet, we think it’s totally cool! Not for every neck, this piece is the perfect gift for your favorite edgy, artistic girl (even if that girl is you). Finished with a little mint green Feral Childe charm.

And check out the Matty dress by Curator!  A little bit “Mad Men”… a little bit Hitchcock heroine, the Matty dress has a vintage vibe with a modern twist (sustainability). Of 100% organic cotton and finished with a flirty fold over collar, elastic waistband, mesh front & back details and side seam pockets.

HAPPY SPRING, PEOPLE!

WEEKLY STEAL: the Mercedes Satchel by Hemptress

I love my Stella McCartney handbag ($1200), but in that I’ve had it for less than a year… I noticed yesterday that it’s falling apart for the second time (it received an overhall about 3 months ago).  My other bag is the Mercedes Satchel by Hemptress, which I’ve carried more frequently and for a year longer than the S.Mc.  And do you know what it’s NOT doing… falling apart.  In fact, it still looks as gorgeous and luxe as the 1st day I carried it (and I’ve even run it through the washing machine on the delicate cycle once)!  THIS WEEK ONLY – the Mercedes is 50% OFF!!!

It’s the “Mercedes” of handbags!

Hemptress bags are like vintage Chanel meets the 21st century meets hemp! Of 100% Raw Hemp body with bonded leather trim (repurposed from recycled leather) and light gold tone hardware the versatile Mercedes bag is roomy enough for all you need for the day, but stylish enough for night. Double handle, with removable shoulder strap. Finished with silk lining, interior zippered pocket and patch pockets with section for cell phone. Inside zippers are made from recycled nylon.

Dimensions: 14 inches wide x 15.5 inches tall x 4.5 inches deep with 6 inch handle drop.

And this week only… $100 (orig. $200)

Shine on jewelry… shine on!

I know… this looks like the beginning of a fun weekend, right?  A bit of gin.  A bit of jewelry.

Well, believe it or not, I wasn’t gearing up for a party or relaxing after a long day… I was cleaning my wedding ring!   Gin + dirty, dingy diamond = brilliantly bright stone!

It couldn’t be easier or more effective.  Drop your ring into a small vessel and cover it with gin.  Let soak for about an hour, scrub with an old toothbrush, rinse with water…. and you will be shocked by how shiny your bling will be!

I mean, have you ever???  Shine on!

Homemade Kale chips… YES!

We, at the GWG office, are obsessed with Alive & Radiant Foods’ Kale Crunch, but at $5.99 for a bitty bag and a hardcore Kale chip habit… it’s become a spendy obsession.  Cut to – we learned how to make them ourselves (fairly easy, btw)!

Our own GWG Kale crunch!

Admittedly, our Kale crunch isn’t quite as “cheesy” (and thusly, tasty) as Alive & Radiants’… but they are damned good!  Here’s the recipe (thanks to Gone Raw)…

Ingredients:

1 large bunch of curly, green kale, washed, large stems removed, torn into bite size pieces

COATING:
1 cup cashews, (soaked 2 hours)
1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
juice of 1 lemon
2 t. agave (optional-I don’t add, I like them more salty + savory)
1 T. nutritional yeast
1/2 t. himalayan pink crystal salt (use more or less to taste)

Preparation:

Put coating ingredients in Vitamix. Blend until smooth. Using your hands, massage coating onto kale pieces getting it inside of curls. Put on teflex sheets (don’t worry about flattening them, they’re better bunched up) and dehydrate at 105 overnight or until coating is dry. Slide onto mesh screens and dehydrate 12 hours, or until very crispy.

Lindsay’s Celebrity Low-Down: Adrian Grenier…Join His Entourage for a Greener Lifestyle

Lately, I have been missing L.A. I know that with Los Angeles comes a lot of stereotypes of superficiality, jerky movie stars and a surplus of unnecessary plastic surgery. But underneath all that, L.A. really is a great place, and in it there are people who care about the environment they live in (it has a lot more vegan and vegetarian options than most of the places I have traveled).

That is why I am writing this post about Entourage star Adrian Grenier! Entourage exemplifies the lavish Hollywood lifestyle, but in real life, Adrian Grenier is working hard in order to lighten his carbon footprint. (Okay, I know he was born in Santa Fe and was raised in New York, but they have to film the show somewhere, right?)

Adrian at the Season 8 Premier of Entourage

Grenier has actually used his Hollywood success to his benefit by producing documentaries and shows that feature real green experts and teach people how to live be greener. He truly uses his celebrity and experience with film for good. To read up more on some of Adrian’s green T.V. work, go here: http://pg.treehugger.com/tv/alter-eco/

Ad for Grenier's Show ALTER ECO

On May 13th of 2010 Grenier’s SHFT Gallery, an eco-friendly website opened up a pop up store in Los Angeles. His site is working to as a new media platform for those who want to live their lives in an eco-friendly way. He started the site after his show with producer Peter Glatzer, “ALTER ECO,” premiered in June of 2009 on Discovery’s Planet Green.

Grenier at Premiere of Pop-Up Shop in LA

You may think that Adrian’s face would be put to better use in front of the camera and not behind an eco-friendly website, but don’t worry, he also has modeled in order to promote a sustainable style. His website worked with Gilt Man to promote eco-apparel and accessories.
Adrian also supports green and animal friendly charities. Reading Jeffrey Sachs’ “The End of Poverty” influenced him, and it has inspired him to advocate for foundations like Best Friends Animal Society, Feeding America, Global Green and UNICEF. Grenier hosted the “Fund Rager” for Kiva and co-hosted the first annual charity:water Ball with Jessica Stam in 2006. He also supports Entourage co-star Mark Wahlberg’s youth foundation.

Grenier Model's Gilt's Eco-friendly Schwag

Although the end has come for Entourage, we have no doubt that Grenier will continue to do great things for the environment and will promote a celebrity lifestyle that we can all be proud of!
