There are very few things I enjoy more in the fashion world than a full length dress. I love formal gowns, I love vintage caftans and I love modern Maxi dresses! At Green With Glamour, we currently have 2 very different Maxis… and I own (and LOVE) them both.

Classically chic… And 70s inspired casual.
On the left we have the Carmelina by Kelly B. It’s crazy flattering, elegant and soooooo easy to wear. I throw it on with anything from flip flops to espadrille wedges and it always garners a wild amount of compliments. The beautyWear it day or night… with pearls or with bold, nature-y jewelry like tagua. And on the right, we’ve got the Fleetwood by She Bible. It’s easy, breezy, and oh-so-Seventies! It’s not quite as all-purpose as the Carmelina… but what the Fleetwood lacks in versatility, it makes up for 100 times of in WOW Factor! There has not been a time when I’ve worn this that I haven’t had a stranger or 2 stop me to ask about it. It’s super-flattering and unlike anything else out there. Get you Max on, Ladies!!!

“I could gush on forever about Tiffany Romigh’s style… I’ve seen her rock a designer cocktail dress and Louboutins at a party where most everyone was wearing jeans (Musicians!?!), and reversely, I’ve seen her turn heads in a tank top, jeans and sneakers at a tony Beverly Hills watering hole. I’ve seen her wear rare Courreges at home and I’ve seen her work a daring neckline in the daytime. Tiffany dresses for her mood – not for you, me or whatever trend is rolling around. She takes risks (and not just with her style), and I so greatly admire that.
—Deana Bracken, GWG President & Creative Director

If nothing else, style to me is about options. My closet has had a Denim Invasion. A late 60s, French moment. A studs-and-leggings Sunday. And I even have the gear to be that woman at the pool; the one who wears her bathing suit with a pair of low, sling-back heels and a summer-weight cashmere wrap and drinks lemonade from a martini glass. (I just hope I have the guts to step into her skin.)
What am I saying? I’m saying that because of the new wave of style innovators and the always-chic design legends and their care and feeding of the objects that have become a real part of our lives, I can be a 70s rock chick one day and a demure coquette the next and still feel like myself. There are that many great things out there.
So this season, I bow my head and blow a kiss to options: a luxe cotton dress with a ruffle down each side.

A clutch that’s both backstage and center stage.

Some studs that come up roses.

Wooden sunglasses that are equally at home in a vintage station wagon and on a beach.

And a denim skirt that could have been designed in the 1920s or in 2020.

But here’s the thing. Whichever way the wind blows, it kind of doesn’t matter. Because when I put together something that feels perfectly “me”, it always feels like home. And with all the options this season, I can buy a home in every place I like.

Spring is just around the corner and Green With Glamour is ramping up for warm weather looks! New fashion is trickling into GWG Headquarters and our excitement is on the rise. We’re really vibing a polished, 70s look for the upcoming season… pretty patterns, bold (without being too bright) hues and feminine-without-being frilly silhouettes. And though our in-house line, The List by GWG is young & small… we love each piece. All hail The Clutch in 70s Chic!

Made from vintage deadstock cotton fabric… from the actual 1970’s, The Clutch is the perfect piece for both ladies who prefer to use patterns sparingly (just imagine how cute with a beloved LBD and wedges) AND for ladies who like to be bold with prints (just picture with your favorite striped tee or floral sundress). It even works sooner than Spring/Summer with a tank, cardy and skinny jeans. So, so, so stylish! And like every piece from The List by GWG collection… it’s a limited edition – available only Spring/Summer 2011!

Lined in organic cotton/hemp linen, The Clutch is sustainable, stylish… and oh-s0-current! COMING SOON….

The Amedee Crochet necklace by She Bible is one of Kat’s favorite pieces. She wears hers with anything from a simple tank top & jeans to a sexy dress with a plunging neckline. C’est magnifique… and this week, it’s only $24!

A sexy statement in delicious crochet… a bit bohemian and a bit elegant. The braided design is chic and modern, folksy and fun. Faux suede ties allow for adjusting the length of the chic piece! Made in the U.S. (and did we mention it’s now only $24?!)

I’m a creature of habit for many things… my jewelry definitely is a habit. Earrings – either or Dawes Designs hoops, old pearl studs or Julia Failey rose studs, the watch my mother gave me in college, my wedding ring, my Julia Failey Octopus ring, a Tiffany bracelet I was given in high school, and possibly another bracelet or 2… often my Fahmina bangle cuff. I’ve always admired the way other women wear necklaces, but for whatever reason, I’ve never really been that gal. Well, I’m using the New Year as an excuse to change all of that! Necklaces… here I come!
DLC Brooklyn is a wonderful line… creative, feminine without being “frilly” and made entirely of vintage materials. We sell a lot of DLC at Green With Glamour, so I’m going to a cue from our clients… and get some for myself. The Pearl Pendant is a new design – and I love it. Baby pearls, big pearl… pearls, pearls, pearls!

Pearl pendant by DLC Brooklyn
I’m also very much digging the Lotus double necklace by Julia Failey (clearly I’m a sucker for pearls). It has a Chanel-goes-a-bit-Zen vibe. Whether with tank top or favorite LBD, the easy sophistication of this piece is a real showstopper. Of reclaimed gold vermeil, black onyx, crystals, and pearls. C’est tres chic!

Lotus double with black onyx, crystals & pearls by Julia Failey
Another go-to designer for us at GWG, is Green Diva. Her pieces are pretty and refined with just a hint of Earthiness. I’m currently finding the Summer Solstice necklace particularly appealing. The gold & silver combo is the best! I wear these 2 metals together every day… so why not make it even easier on myself?! Of hand etched 100% recycled pink gold pendant on a 100% recycled silver double chain. Bring on Summer!

Risking arrogance, I’ll say it… my business partner, Kat and I are pretty damned stylish. I’ve known her for almost 20 years and in all of that time, we’ve both maintained the same, respective overall styles. Sure – silhouettes change, heel shapes vary, necklines, waistlines and hemlines all go up and down, but Kat has been consistently pretty and polished and I have always leaned toward… let’s call it “effortless”. Each season, I love to see how Kat and I choose different pieces from the Green With Glamour collection… or wear the same piece very differently. And though our styles vary, we certainly appreciate the other’s style – as well as the style of others. So, we thought why not feature other stylish folks and their perfect outfit. A celebration of individuality and style. Each month, we’ll introduce a new, amazing person… and their approach to an ensemble - My Style.

Nealy’s picks

Rose studs ~ Julia Failey Bubinga sunglasses ~ IWood Eco Design

Icy Cozy dress ~ Popomomo

Clutch in leopard ~The List by GWG Frequency bracelet ~ DLC Brooklyn
Actress-turned-Filmmaker, Nealy Glenn, is a great representation of Green With Glamour. She embodies an effortless elegance for which so many of us strive mixed with an exuberant curiosity and compassionate drive to “make things right”. Whether she’s in a high-powered pitch meeting, writing at home or taking her toddler son to the Farmer’s Market, you can be sure to find Nealy in an easy-chic dress, perfectly accessorized, with her hair loosely “up”. What strikes us at GWG about Nealy’s style is that, while she may never put together the same ensemble twice, she’s consistently true to the “look” that is very much her own.
Also Nealy’s style: Kiva, Greenpeace and savvy entertaining at home.
Going forward, we’ll be celebrating the Styles of a vast and varied group… Want to be a part? Tell us your style and you may be featured on Green With Glamour too!

One of my favorite silhouettes for Spring is the feminine (but not too girlie) skirt! I wear skirts constantly… for work, for play, day or night. I keep the top fairly simple – a ribbed tank or a crisp white shirt and let the accessories & footwear really dictate the look. I might do pearl earrings and ballet flats (or this season’s shoe star – Oxfords) for a casual day look and switch out to heeled booties for evening and add a statement necklace for evening… easy chic!
And the Ellie skirt by Mountains of the Moon (MotM) is at the top of my “Must Wear” list for this season. Luxe but effortless, colorful yet versatile… the Ellie has it all! I also noticed that Jason Wu’s Spring 2010 collection includes a short ruffled skirt (lovely as well), but in that it’s anything but “eco” AND over $700 more than MotM’s… my vote is the Ellie!

Just a little love from an unexpectedly GWG magazine! In the April 2010 issue of Country Living, the Taj napkin by Hammocks & High Tea from Green With Glamour is chosen as one of their top 30 “eco-chic” picks for the home.

They truly are lovely napkins… great pick, CL!

Ah, the Taj… almost too pretty for food.

My latest piece for The Green Girls:
I don’t know about you… but I’ve had a hard time peeling myself off my sofa lately. What with post-holidays recovery and dreary weather, nothing seems more appealing than movie marathons and board games on our beloved “divan”. And though my sofa is a cherished (& elegant) hand-me-down from my oh-so-stylish grandmother, circa 1971… every once and awhile I find myself with a wandering eye. Here’s the best of what I’ve found:
I’m starting in my own backyard – because of course, I believe the pieces I’ve hand-selected for the Green With Glamour collection are simply stunning! I’ve found that Canadian interior designer, Ami McKay, designs incomperable “eco-friendly” upholstered furniture pieces. They are elegant and mod… and if you opt for the beautiful embroidery – feminine without being fussy. The Cyrilla banquet by PURE/Ami McKay is a perfect example. From Master bedroom to Dining table, Grand Foyer to cozy Living room – the Cyrilla will add some serious style to any space!

The Cyrilla in space
I’m a sucker for a classic style. I grew up in a Traditional American home (with an interior designer mother), so our house was mildly chic and a bit fancy without being too formal. The Denali sofa by Living Green is very much like the sofas of my childhood. And though it’s actually quite versatile (could work in a myriad of spaces)… it transcends me to a time when uber-stylish interior designer, Billy Baldwin, was decorating for Hollywood starlets and NY-based “Swans”.

Aesthetically, the Piazza sofa by CB2 would not typically make my list. It’s a bit free-form and casual for my tastes, but in that I’ve spent a lovely, lazy day on one… I’m including it for it’s extreme comfort factor and for the fact that – when paired with clean Mid-Century Modern decor, vibrant hues and pop artwork (as is the case with my friend’s house) – it’s just a great basic and wildly cozy piece!

We have A LOT lined up for this coming year, but here are the top 3 exciting goodies you can anticipate from Green With Glamour in 2010:
1. The GWG product line
I, personally, am crazy-excited about the upcoming Green With Glamour line of fashion, travel and home essentials! It’s a perfectly sized, 9 piece line of super-chic, signature pieces to wear, take with you and live amongst. The idea started as a shortlist of items I’d prefer not to live without and has blossomed into a collection of gorgeous goodies that I think everyone will enjoy. Unfortunately, I can’t give away too much at this point… but let’s just say it involves caftans, backgammon and animal inspirations (of course)!
2. Living GWG giveaways
Why not, right? I think this once-horrid-and-now-getting-somewhat-better economy has softened us all a bit to the point where “free stuff” doesn’t have to be taboo. Sometimes “gratis” can be gracious… so we’ve put into motion monthly GWG giveaways – and we’re only giving away pieces you’ll actually want. No junk. From life (and hair) changing bamboo hairbrushes and yummy soy candles to gorgeous jewelry pieces and fashion-forward accessories… First up – EcoTools Makeup Bags designed by Alicia Silverstone (stay tuned)!
3. And maybe… just maybe a tv series about GWG!
I don’t like to count chickens before they hatch (I actually don’t think I’d like to count chickens at all), but there has been a bit of a buzz around a reality show (I know, but don’t hate) revolving around us kooks that run/work with/live for Green With Glamour. The highs, the lows, the everyday madness that is our lives. Again, I can’t currently give away too much, but cross your fingers for us… and we’ll give you tv gold!
Happy New Year Everyone… may this be the best year yet!

Ooh la la… C’est chic! When I saw Sublet’s (Dorothy) bow top – it was love at first site! I thought… how girlie… how simply sophisticated… how fashionable without being too spendy. It’s the kind of top that works with jeans and flats, skirts and heels AND leggings and boots – you name it. It’s seasonless… cardigan and scarf for Fall, flip flops and cutoffs for Spring – it’s perfection!
And I did spy an Andrew Gn top that employs the same principles… white/cream with a sweet black bow. Similar in design, right? Well, NOT in pricetag!

Hmmmm… what do you think?

So… we thought it would be fun for the Green With Glamour team to share their holiday gift lists and wish lists. We’re an eclectic bunch, but all seriously value style, substance and sustainability. This week we’re featuring our First Lady of Beauty, Sara Jones-Rust!

Sara Jones-Rust
Getting:
My husband and I have a five year plan to live in a city that lets us have a yard, and in that yard we want a big garden. This beginners canning kit will help us eat local all year round.

Dirty Librarian chains have got to be my favorite find of 2009 (thanks to Deana). It’s hard for me to narrow it down to just one, but I think the “Reference necklace” would suit me just fine.

I am a book worm at heart and would love nothing more than to amass an entire library. From the classics to the Twilight series, I love them all. But why buy new when the latest best sellers pop up in my local used book store in no time?

Since I am also a makeup junkie, my list would not be complete without some BEAUTY! The Nvey Eco gift set is complete with blush, bronzer, gloss and shadow. This kit has it all.

And what’s an eco-diva to do with all those fantastic, sustainable, beauty products when she wants to leave the house? Put them in the gorgeous Alicia Silverstone line of makeup bags for EcoTools, of course! The hemp & recycled plastic train case seems to be about the perfect size for all my basics with room left over for those fancy holiday shades.

Giving:
My favorite thing to give and get, especially this time of year, is a donation to a charity. One of my favorites is Women for Women International which helps women in war torn countries rebuild their lives. Having sponsored and corresponded with a young woman from Kosovo, I can tell you it’s an incredible experience and better than any thing you can buy at a store.
