Last year I discovered Melissa… It’s a wonderful (and reasonably priced) Brazilian shoe line made of recycled/recyclable/non-toxic rubber! I bought 3 pairs last summer – 2 pairs of flip flops and 1 pair of peep toe flats and I’ve gotten MILES & MILES out of each. They’re chic-looking, durable and totally comfortable! In fact, I posted about coveting their breezy Campana style months ago, but now I just saw on Green Gretchen… they’re doing 7 colors of slingbacks, People!
Melissa offers a wide range of style… Including pumps, gladiators and super-cute Tstraps designed by Vivienne Westwood!

So… a couple of weeks ago my dear friend, Matthew, wanted to see The Informers (the lastest screen adaptation from a Bret Easton Ellis book – set in the 80s, of course). We obliged. Overall, it was just awful… but there were some highlights: Mickey Rourke played sinister really well, Brad Renfro was so haunting that I found myself looking away from the screen at times during his scenes and the pretty, young blonde who all the “hot” guys were after wore PEARL STUD EARRINGS! Ho-ly… it was like finding that $20 in a pair of jeans you haven’t worn in awhile or re-discovering a camisole in the back of your closet that you end up wearing all season.

Go… get yours! You know you have a pair! At some point in your life a family member has given you a pair… or 2… or 3. My latest and my favorites were given to me by my husband while we were still dating – like 10 years ago. Been wearing them non-stop… It’s not like they ever go out of style!

I love, Love, LOVE high-end furniture design… LOVE IT! A beautifully designed and perfectly executed piece is like a Stradivarius violin or a residence by Mies van der Rohe – meticulously crafted and wonderfully functional. My latest article for Ecostiletto is about 2 in demand & brilliant contemporary “eco” furniture designers, Facundo Poj and Cliff Spencer. Check it:

Table by Facundo Pol

Rocker by Cliff Spencer
Let’s be honest, a made-to-order piece will cost a bit more, but you’ll be investing in a high-quality, durable piece that likely will become an heirloom, passed along for generations to come, rather than ditched in a landfill at the end of its limited life. We think that kind of legacy is well worth the price.
“Life is short. Live simply.” That’s the motto of cabinetmaker and furniture designer Cliff Spencer. We’re knocked out by Spencer’s knack for turning reclaimed woods into stunning works of functional art—a talent he uses to create classic-looking custom pieces for renowned green architects and Beverly Hills ecoistas alike. Whether it’s a one-of-a-kind bed frame or conversation-worthy rocking chair, Spencer works with each client to craft precisely the right piece from anything from old wine barrels to fallen backyard trees.
If you’re in the market for something a little more cutting—or in this case, bending—edge, check out the work of Miami-based designer, Facundo Poj. Turning spectacularly sustainable bamboo into sinewy, statement-making furniture is Poj’s M.O. We’re wowed by Poj’s technique, which involves layering nearly 30 layers of engineered bamboo ply and completing each piece with water-based and custom-colored finishes.

“Swapping is the new Shopping” is the motto of Posh Swaps, a new clothing, accessories, etc. swapping site based in the UK… and I love it! It’s a new endeavor, so the picking are still slim but the concept is brillsville – and I’m sure it will take off. It’s a super “green” (as long as you’re not constantly shipping between the States & the UK), chic and free way to update your wardrobe. You can swap, buy or sell goods on the site – so there’s an option for everyone! And though Posh Swaps’ offerings are still on the sparse side…I found 3 pieces to seriously pursue.

I have to give Green Grechen her propers… as it was her blog that turned me onto PS.

Ok… my evenings this week have been almost annoyingly busy – 4 events & 2 parties (the last for which I’m currently late)! Don’t get me wrong – I’ve had a good to great time at each and tonight will be wonderful, I know… but, every night in heels can wear on a girl! ANYWAY, Not much time for food/cooking this week and the events always only have nibbles, so coconut milk yogurt to the rescue!!! Have you tried… it’s divine!

I’ve only ever tried the SO Delicious brand (not sure if anyone else makes it)… and the blueberry is officially my favorite – but their all delish!

I’ve been watching a lot of old episodes of Mary Tyler Moore Show… I mean A LOT! Beside the fact that its a fantastic show, I’m completely obsessed with the wardrobing. In the early eps, Mary’s look borders , on too young, but she totally makes it work. I mean… a “30 year old woman” (she does look a bit older, but we forgive) in a full length sailor suit – fantastic! Though her typical look is more Catherine Deneuve in Belle de Jour than Ann-Margret in Bye Bye, Birdie, I can’t quite look past the poly double knits – they look scarily skin-chaffing.

But… oh, the scarves! I’ll admit it, I’m not much of a vintage clothing shopper (though I greatly admire those who are). I go to thrift shops & 2nd hand stores for furniture, tableware and artwork… but I do find myself walking slowly by the scarf rack – and now after watching all this MTM, I will be stopping & shopping for sure. I’m buying very few pieces for summer, so adding colorful scarves to clothing from season’s passed is going to be my way!

Here are some examples of what’s out there… if you want high, Go Hermes… if you want low, Vera!
